Sterling Silver Buttons

Early jewellers always retained the services of a casemaker to construct boxes for the special items they made.  These boxes are miniature works of art in themselves.  These buttons depict Hermes and are hallmarked for Birmingham in 1902.

They were used with special clips that allowed them to be easily removed when the garments were washed.
